Who we are
St. James Church is a family of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. We are non-denominational, but voluntarily connected to a group of like-minded churches called the Evangelical Association of Reformed & Congregational Christian Churches (EA) for fellowship. Originally founded as a German Evangelical church over one hundred years ago in our neighborhood, we are grounded firmly in the teachings of the Bible, as understood by the Reformers. We are doctrinally Reformed, hold to what are known as the Five Solas of the Reformation, identify strongly with the Biblical interpretations and teachings of Martin Luther, and seek to be Evangelical by sharing the life-giving grace of God in Christ with others who, like we once were, are "dead in their trespasses and sin."

Truths We Affirm
God is Inherently Holy
God is perfectly and completely holy "And one called out to another and said, "Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts, the whole earth is full of His glory." Isaiah 6:3 God is eternally holy "Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God, The Almighty, who was and who is and who is to come." Revelation 4:8 God is uniquely holy "There is no one holy like the LORD, indeed, there is no one besides You, nor is there any rock like our God." 1 Samuel 2:2 |
Mankind is Inherently Unholy
All people, apart from God, are unholy "There is no righteous person, not even one; There is no one who understands, There is no one who seeks out God; They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, There is not even one." Romans 3:10-12 Apart from God, we hide from God "And this is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the Light; for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light, so that his deeds will not be exposed." John 3:19-20 |
Sin Separates Us From God
All have sinned "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23 Sin is a barrier to God "But your wrongdoings have caused a separation between you and your God, And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear." Isaiah 59:2 Sin and God are incompatible "For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness; No evil can dwell with You." Psalm 5:4 |
Sin Leads to Eternal Death
Death is a consequence of sin "For the wages of sin is death" Romans 6:23 All who sin will die "Behold, all souls are Mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is Mine. The soul who sins will die." Ezekiel 18:4 Death apart from Jesus is eternal "These people will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power" 2 Thessalonians 1:9 |
Jesus Laid Down His Life To Pay For Our Sins
God loves the world "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16 Statement Scripture Chapter/Verse |
