Mark Hampton

David Sims

Pastor

David Sims holds a Master of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, as well as a Bachelor of Music from Cornerstone University, and an Associate of Science from Full Sail University. Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, he and his family have lived in Louisville since 2018. Prior to that, he served in the United States Army for nine years, including deploying to Afghanistan with the 82nd Airborne Division and serving with NATO headquarters in Belgium. He enjoys reading, studying history, and playing music. He has been married to his wife Rebekah since 2003, and they have two children.

Amy Matthews

Minister of Music and Worship

Amy Matthews earned a Master's degree in Worship Studies from the Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies in 2021, and holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano and Viola Performance from Cairn University. At Cairn, she also studied organ. She continues using piano, viola, and organ regularly in her role at St. James. Amy moved to Louisville with her husband, Cai, in 2020, and they have one child. Her family enjoys reading and walking together and, when they can, going on adventures such as hiking, rafting, and skydiving.

Donna Vaughn

Handbell Ensemble Director

Donna Vaughn is the director of the St. James Church Handbell Ensemble where she served as Music Minister and Organist before retiring. Donna and the Handbell Ministry of St. James Church celebrated 50 years of faithful ringing in 2019. Donna has been an active member of the Handbell Musicians of America since 1970, and has served as Kentucky State Chair, Clinician, and Mentor. She holds a degree in Organ and Church Music from the University of Louisville School of Music, and has taught piano and organ. Donna and her husband Elvis have two daughters, two sons, three granddaughters, and one grandson.

  • St. James Church is currently searching for a Music Pastor. To obtain a full position description, or to submit a resumé, interested parties may email pastorsearchcommittee@stjameslou.net. ​
  • St. James Church hires one or two interns every school semester. Roles range from pastoral ministries of preaching, visitation, and study to music ministries of handbells and choir. High school graduates in further education settings should contact the church office to apply.
